About Lloyd The Paralympian

Despite Lloyd’s congenital bone deficiency, he developed his physical skills at an early age with his passion for swimming, baseball, and bowling. By his teen years, Lloyd began to excel in the sport of gymnastics, competing against able body gymnasts. He won a staggering 25 gold, 27 silver, and 20 bronze medals in various competitions including the Prairie State Games, Chicago Park District Gymnastics on the Beach, the Midwest Open, and other intercollegiate meets.

Lloyd was also a member of the 1996 U.S. Paralympic Team and competed in sit volleyball in the 1996 Atlanta games. He also enjoys downhill mono-skiing and is a certified scuba driver.

After his life-changing experience as a U.S. Paralympian, Lloyd’s passion for gymnastics led him back to the gym, this time in a coaching role. He was director of gymnastics for the Chicago Park District, Therapeutic Recreation Department for seven years. Lloyd has coached girls gymnastics in the high school level. He is also certified as a national men's gymnastics judge. Lloyd Bachrach serves as a peer counselor for Families and Amputees in Motion (FAIM).
